UPDATE, July 24, 2026:

AUBURN, Ala. - On July 24, 2026, the Auburn Police Department arrested Michael Alexander Sherrill, 28, of Auburn, Alabama, on the charge of manslaughter.

On June 25, 2026, officers responded to the 200 Block of West Magnolia Avenue in reference to a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. Responding officers located a 68-year-old male victim and rendered immediate medical assistance. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Following the initial investigation, Sherrill was arrested and charged with assault second degree. Since that time, the victim has passed away from the injuries he sustained. As a result of the victim's death and the continued investigation, the charge against Sherrill was upgraded to manslaughter. Sherrill was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail where he is being held on a $25,000 bond.

The victim was then transported to an area hospital and remains in critical, but stable condition.

Sherril was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Auburn Police Department for questioning. After further investigation, Sherril was arrested for assault second degree.

Following his arrest, Sherril was transported to the Lee County Jail, where he is being held on a $25,000 bond. The incident remains under investigation.
